Adrian Peterson is easily the most prolific running back that has ever played the game of football. As a member of the Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson went on to turn in a Hall of Fame career that has spanned over an entire decade. Peterson decided that there were greener pastures, however, before deciding to sign with the New Orleans Saints this past off-season. As an aging veteran Peterson was immediately expected to see limited carries in the New Orleans offense. However, he was shocked to see that Head Coach Sean Payton barely ever called his name. This led to a shocking early-season trade that saw New Orleans ship off Adrian Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals in time for Week 5 of the NFL season.

Players like Adrian Peterson need to be careful with how they handle themselves in the final years of their career because it has a chance of marring their reputation. Just look at how Brett Favre was received for jumping from Green Bay to New York to Minnesota before ultimately retiring. Peterson, similar to Favre in terms of talent at his position, took to the news to make comments on his trade out of New Orleans. Peterson said, “It was like, ‘Thank you, Jesus.’ He answers prayers.” These harsh comments come just a week removed from Peterson getting into a verbal spat with the New Orleans coaching staff during a game. Peterson goes on to say, “I’ll be lying to you to say that I didn’t want a change of scenery after four weeks of seeing how things played out.”

The Arizona Cardinals for their part needed a running back in order to take on lead duties. Arizona had already lost superstar David Johnson for the entire season after a Week 1 injury forced him to season-ending surgery. Veteran Chris Johnson was signed and then subsequently released after failing to find any running room for the Cardinals. Now Peterson will be handed the opportunity to have complete control of the backfield. At 32 years old and coming off of his worst string of professional games it will be interesting to see if Peterson is able to bounce back.

The Arizona Cardinals have already introduced Adrian Peterson to their team and the former star player has pulled in a pair of practices. Peterson believes and has been vocal about the fact that he can still compete. Peterson said, “I have so much left. I look to play four to five more years, God willing.”
