UFC Now And Then

Lately the UFC has been all over the news but not in a good way. From testing positive to steroids to criminal charges and suspensions. What ever happened to the old UFC where fighters fought with pride, honor and respect. It seems like fighters now feel forced to having that competitive advantage over their opponent and end up using steroids. I get it, I mean the UFC has gone from being a tournament to find the most effective martial art to a $1.54 Billion dollar company. It’s show business and everyone must be bigger, stronger, faster to keep fans engaged. The purse for the winning fighter can easily hit the couple of million dollar mark. I just think that the pressure is backfiring on the UFC and building a bad reputation for the fighters involved.

The UFC at one point had fight cards where every fight was a major event. I’m talking about the times where Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Matt Hughes, Bass Rutten, B.J Penn were fighting. During those times almost every fight ended with either an amazing knockout or a painful submission. After those fighters retired, the UFC struggled to get replacement fighters and felt kind of dull for some time. The fights were going to decision and the fighters spent most of the time rolling on the mat. The UFC has finally picked up good fighters during the last couple of years and it now seems to be going down in flames.

Steroid Usage

I mean people always suspected that Brock Lesnar was on steroids due to his massive size and muscle definition. With his WWE background it is a dead giveaway. On the other hand, Jon Jones caught people by surprise since everyone thought he would have learned from his earlier suspension due to criminal charges. These events are slowly killing the sport for the true fans out there who look up to and follow these fighters. The UFC needs to ban fighters who test positive for life with no exceptions. By weeding out these fighters and retaining true talent it’s the only way to keep the true fans who follow the sport engaged.

UFC wanted so bad to be just another sport like football and basketball and all it did is sell out to the true fans and turned the franchise into another soft ass rigged made for tv show
