Monday Night Football featured a game of two teams that entered the 2019 season with very high expectations. The Detroit Lions traveled to Green Bay to take on the Packers. Both teams feel that they have the talent to make the playoffs. However, they each have suffered very tough losses this year. The game was an exciting contest. The Lions were able to jump out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter. However, their offense stalled and they were not able to build on that lead. Instead of scoring more touchdowns, they were only able to kick field goals. This sealed the fate of the Lions in this game.

Teams that settle for field goals generally end up losing NFL games. That is a reality that has existed as long as football has been played. It held true in this game. Matt Prater kicked five field goals for the Lions. However, this was not enough. The Packers won the game by a score of 23-22. They were able to win on a field goal with no time left on the clock. It was the first time that Green Bay had led in the game. It was the most painful loss of the season for the Lions.

The Lions made a huge mistake earlier in the game that cost them four points. The Packers were getting ready to kick a field goal. However, the Lions had a penalty called on them for having too many men on the field. This resulted in the Packers getting a fresh set of downs. Green Bay was able to go in for a touchdown and get seven points when they should have only had three. Considering the Lions only lost by one point, the penalty wound up costing the Lions the game. These are mistakes that simply cannot be allowed to happen at the NFL level. Players and coaches are paid too much money to make that type of mistake.

Lions head coach Matt Patricia needs to be held accountable for the mistakes that his team makes. Having too many men on the field comes down to coaching. The Lions do not seem ready to make a coaching change. They seem committed to Patricia. They did not fire him after he was involved in some controversy earlier this year. However, his job might be in jeopardy if the Lions fail to make the playoffs.
