The music made by The Chainsmokers has skyrocketed the group comprised of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart to the top tier of song streaming and global touring. But it has also thrusted the popular pair into the paramount pantheon of fame. Looking at recent award shows and scanning mainstream radio stations will quickly lead your eyes and ears to the big impact The Chainsmokers are making. If the sky is the limit for them, it is quite clear that their stardom continues to illuminate the highest heights of the entertainment industry. Therefore, in order to get a deeper understanding of how The Chainsmokers are handling fame, take a moment to check out these quotes about fame made by Alex Pall from The Chainsmokers.

The first quote comes from an interview from the magazine Interview, posted online on July 28, 2016, during which Alex Pall stated:

“It seems like we’re reaching the 16 to 25 demographic. It’s pretty split between boys and girls if I had to guess. What’s really cool for us is when we see messages from people like, “Hey, my daughter’s six years old and she loves your songs,” and they send a video of them singing it. Or even my mom walked into the room humming “Roses,” which is really cool because it shows that our music is transcending age in general.”

Even with the core audience of The Chainsmokers appearing predominately in the age range most commonly associated with high school and university students, Alex Pall is acutely aware that their fame has expanded the group’s reach to include the parents of their young listeners as well. Being able to permeate the musical tastes of middle-aged adults and older speaks to the keenly catchy nature of their Pop and Dance music mash-ups. Alex accepts this balancing act of adding personality and edge to grab the youth along with addictive choruses and clever songwriting to keep the door cracked open for older fans of The Chainsmokers to feel welcomed to the party.

Billboard spoke with The Chainsmokers on September 15, 2016, to get their insight on what it feels like to be ruling over the Billboard Hot 100 kingdom with royal tracks such as “Closer.” Alex Pall chimed in on how their higher level of fame had shifted the perception of the band, including how other bands have become more aware of them and willing to connect.

“I can’t blame somebody for saying no early on, but it depends on how you said no and how you came back to us. If you own it, like, ‘I didn’t see the vision, but it’s clear now and it’s super sick,’ I get that. It feels good when those people are like… thirsty.”

This is where Alex Pall addresses that complex fame transformation in which bands go from being fans of their favorite artists, to suddenly having their favorite artists becomes fans of them. But even with how awesome it must feel to be recognized by famous musicians, Alex makes it clear that The Chainsmokers are not desperate groupies. They have confidence and self-respect for the music that they have been developing and the hard work that has fueled their trajectory. Yes, The Chainsmokers are willing to play nicely with others, as long as there is an honest desire to work together.

Alex Pall spoke quite candidly about some of the drawbacks of fame when The Chainsmokers were interviewed by FaceCulture on February 20, 2017.

“We are only human beings. You could have 100 people come up to you all day long and say, ‘hey man, I love your jacket.’ And that one person that comes up and is like, ‘You look like an idiot,’ will like stick with you and have such a darker effect on you.”

Fame can play mind games with a celebrity’s self-esteem and cause dirty mud puddles to occur on the red carpet of stardom. Being constantly showered with compliments, whether sincere or to gain favor with a star, can make ugly derogatory statements stand out even more and dig deeper. Alex Pall is clearly real enough to share the fact that everyday isn’t absolutely sunshine when it comes to fame.

Entertainment Tonight Canada conducted an interview with The Chainsmokers on November 29, 2016, and Alex Pall pleasantly expressed his desire to tip the scales of fame more towards the side of being humble and relatively frugal.

“It is nice to be recognized and see our fans enjoying everything we’re are doing. So, we are just taking it in stride.” – Entertainment Tonight Canada
