Recovering From a Lazy Weekend? Read This!

Most men think that there is no harm in catching up on a little relaxation over the weekend. The ability to just lay around and watch TV for two (or three, or four) days in a row really never hurt anyone but recent studies have found that being lazy can actually have a negative effect on the body. While taking a weekend to Netflix and chill with yourself isn’t going to do any major permanent damage, make sure that you don’t make it an every weekend (or every day) thing. It can have serious negative consequences on your body.

Any guy who has tried to lose weight knows how hard it can be to just lose a single pound but in a two-week period of being lazy, men were shown to gain around one pound. That is a lot of weight to gain in a short period of time and is something that can come from just cutting out a little bit of physical activity. If you normally hit the gym on the weekdays but choose to take the weekends off, you are going to see these negative effects. If you normally hit the gym on the week days but then sit down on your couch and don’t move until Monday, you’ll probably start seeing some negative effects.

Along with the weight gain, you can actually lose muscle mass from doing this. Your muscle mass can go down by around one pound during this time, too. Any beef that you were working on is going to be hit hard during your lazy day off routine (or lack of routine). You may find that you will not be able to see the best results possible in the gym later on in the week and you may struggle to get back into any type of routine when Monday rolls around.

What can you do to avoid this, though? Everyone needs a little break but make sure that your lazy weekend is one that doesn’t put your health on the back burner. You should continue to do some light cardio exercises while you are enjoying a lazy weekend. Even if you get up and do a few jumping jacks in between your favorite shows, it is better than just laying on the couch all day. And, remember, make sure that you don’t take too many lazy weekends in a row even if they are healthy lazy!
