Fans of Breaking Bad are counting the days until the follow-up film El Camino hits Netflix streaming and select theaters on October 11. Little news about the film reached the public. Actor Aaron Paul and director Vince Gillian remained secretive about the movie and its plotline. The film, of course, must deal with how Jessie Pinkman deals with being on the run after the conclusion of Breaking Bad. A new trailer confirms that plot point. The second trailer features Jessie in his getaway car listening to the radio. A news report reveals police arrived at the scene of the TV series’ final shootout. The news report also confirms the police are seeking Jessie as a “person of interest.” Jessie Pinkman isn’t getting away from his past so easily.

In interviews, Vince Gillian pointed out he left the end to Jessie’s story in Breaking Bad purposely ambiguous. He left everything to the audience’s imagination. Whether Jessie was pulled over by the police in 10 minutes or he escaped forever was up to the audience. With the arrival of El Camino, the ambiguity ends. We learn Jessie’s fate and wonder if it will lead to a happy or tragic ending.

Original versions of the Breaking Bad script reportedly saw Jessie killing Walter White. With such an ending, it is doubtful Jessie would escape. The decision to go with the tragic end to Walter White’s life, followed by Jessie fleeing the scene delivered a more satisfying conclusion.

Ironically, Jessie Pinkman was not intended to become a co-starring character in the series. He was to die in season two. The chemistry between Aaron Paul and Brian Cranston impressed everyone to keep the Pinkman character into the series. Breaking Bad evolved into a father-son relationship between the two, a relationship that went sour as the series progressed.

Jessie Pinkman’s psychological state is a question mark for El Camino. The carefree and wild character from season one suffered tremendously as the program progressed. His deep-seated guilt and depression set in motion everyone’s downfall in the final season. Audiences, however, so wish to see the more carefree version of the character they love, though. We’ll see how the character behaves once the series lands.

No details are necessary for fans to tune into the movie. The cryptic nature of the two teaser trailers gets the message across. Jessie Pinkman is back. Perhaps a more detailed, plot-oriented trailer is forthcoming. Until then, fans of Breaking Bad can only imagine where the sequel movie is going.
