Season two of last year’s critically acclaimed horror series Chucky is set to debut on SyFy and USA just in time for Halloween binging. The season picks up shortly after last year’s finale, which saw serial killer Charles Lee Ray succeed in his plan of splitting his soul into hundreds of Chucky dolls, forming a veritable army of murderous toys. In a new interview with reporters from Gizmodo, franchise creator Don Mancini talked about Chucky’s enduring popularity and gave a few hints at what audiences can expect from the show’s upcoming sophomore season.

Addressing the franchise’s continued popularity over the past three decades, Mancini credited Chucky voice actor Brad Dourif with keeping fans interested in the property. As fans of the series know, Dourif has done voice work for Chucky in every entry in the series except for the 2019 reboot, which is not in the established canon of the show. Mancini further applauded the work of the many puppeteers on the series, who are led by Tony Gardner and Peter Chevako. Mancini says that thanks to the efforts of Dourif, Gardner, and Chevako, Chucky is a firm part of the show’s cast that they can direct like any other actor or actress.

Continuing, Mancini says that writing Chucky’s story over the past 30 years actually made it easier for the franchise to make the jump to television. Mancini elaborates by pointing out that the Chucky franchise has been one long story following Chucky and his various allies and victims. In bringing the series to television, Mancini says that they have been able to accelerate the franchise’s storytelling and delve deeper into characters than they could in films. This season, Mancini says that viewers will get to learn more about Glen and Glenda, Chucky and Tiffany’s children who were first introduced to the franchise in 2004’s Seed of Chucky. Mancini adds that the season will also explore the history of last year’s surviving teenagers, including Jake, Devon, and Lexy. From a filmmaking standpoint, Mancini feels that teenagers are a perfect conduit for a Chucky story, pointing out that kids of that age typically view the world in a more vivid, emotional way.

Season two of Chucky premieres on October 5.
