Fans of horror movies are excited to hear that the first trailer for the Halloween reboot is scheduled for release on June 8. The news was shared on Twitter through Jason Blum, one of the film’s producers. The reboot will see the return of many of the original cast and crew from the first Halloween film in 1978. Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode and Nick Castle reprises his role of Michael Myers. Series creator John Carpenter also returns as an executive producer. While Curtis has appeared in numerous Halloween films since the original, Castle has not been with the franchise since the original film and Carpenter has not been with the series since 1982’s Halloween III: Season of the Witch. In returning to the series, Carpenter hopes to make the film as scary as the original. Part of the way the film hopes to accomplish this is by ignoring all the previous nine films in the series and just continuing the story from where the original one left off.

Since the film was announced in 2016, details on the plot of Halloween have been few and far between. However, producers did show footage from the film to a small audience at a panel at CinemaCon in April. Reporters in attendance at the panel describe the plot of the film centering around a murder documentary team who interviews Michael Myers and Laurie Strode about the events of the original film. While Myers is confined to prison, Strode is bent on revenge, hoping to one day get the opportunity to kill the mass murderer. As fate would have it, a bus carrying Myers crashes and the killer is let loose. The footage concludes with a montage of Myers stalking innocent victims and Strode taking a shot at the killer.

Speaking at CinemaCon, Curtis thanked fans for their continued support of the Halloween franchise and praised the upcoming reboot. Speaking on the history of the franchise, Curtis noted that while the original film was made with a shoestring budget, it has nevertheless stood the test of time, saying, “What they created would come to stand as an unyielding, sustaining influence in the canon of horror. It is still terrifying in its simplicity.” Directed by David Gordon Green, Halloween is scheduled for release on October 19.
