Nicholas Cage may find his movie career venturing down a new path. The actor wants to become a director, which would be a wise move. Cage’s days as a major leading actor have long ended. In a previous career life, Cage starred in several mega box offices hits including National Treasure, Ghost Rider, and more. Actors, Cage included, eventually see their box office appeal fade as audiences and their tastes change. Cage might not be able to land lead roles in major Hollywood movies anymore, but he could feasibly direct them.

Currently, Cage’s acting output finds him starring in low-budget direct-to-DVD fare. Essentially, he’s lending his name to B-movies. A switch to directing could extend Nicholas Cage’s career many years. The pay probably would be much better if he moved to Hollywood projects as a director.

Cage definitely would benefit from anything providing an increase in pay. The actor has not hidden the facts surrounding his current financial situation. Cage’s debt situation became legendary in the entertainment world. The actor spent lavishly throughout his life, a practice that eventually caught up with him. The IRS caught up with him, too. Cage faced a multi-million dollar tax bill, one he found himself unable to pay.

The public spectacle of the actor’s money troubles is unfortunate. Nicholas Cage shouldn’t become known solely for the dramatic problems with his finances. Cage’s acclaimed performance in Leaving Las Vegas is what really should come to mind when the actor’s name comes up. And it is not as if Cage holds the dubious honor of being the only famous actor to suffer from money and tax woes. The roll call of famous names with similar problems could fill a book.

With decades of experience in the film industry, Nicholas Cage may turn out to be a fine director. He already directed one movie years ago. So, the job of a director would not be totally new to him.

He may even turn out to be quite good at it.
