DC vs Marvel

Comic Con was this weekend and we were able to get an exclusive first look at the trailers for Wonder Woman and Justice League Part One. Some individuals were left with a bitter taste in their mouth after Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. They felt the movie was a bit chaotic and out of order. Too much content squeezed into a small amount of time. A lot of cut scenes straight into action with little dialog to support it. Having been a follow up to Man of Steel, the movie seem to distance itself from the original recipe that made Superman a smash hit again in movie theaters. It is obvious that DC realized they are light years behind Marvel and couldn’t afford to waste half a decade introducing these characters individually, nice and slowly, as to build their story lines properly.

Personally, I was a huge fan of Batman v Superman. I spent countless amounts of hours defending it to friends and coworkers. DC was vastly different than Marvel. They are dark, gritty, serious, and the stakes are much higher. Every Marvel movie I watch seems to have a ton of “on the nose” popcorn humor to make small children chuckle during their summer release. The tone that Zack Snyder has set for these movies are very mature, and as an adult fan of these comics, I couldn’t be happier. I couldn’t contain my grin, seeing Batman actually kill bad guys, and not shy away from using a rifle as a weapon. It was a new take for these heroes and I appreciated it.

Release Trailer

Fast forward to the release of the Justice League trailer, and it appears the casting choices remain excellent. Jason Mamoa definitely makes Arthur Curry (Aquaman) relevant and interesting. Erza Miller seems like a great fit for Barry Allen (Flash), as he seems charming and capable of producing comic relief. Then we have an awesome choice in Ray Fisher, who seems like the perfect tough guy for Victor Stone (Cybord). In the trailer we see Bruce Wayne trying to recruit Aquaman and Flash, with a few scenes involving Cyborg, while the group is surrounded by the intrigue of an upcoming doom. There is no sight of Superman in the trailer, nor is there any mention of Green Latern or Green Arrow anywhere in the IMDB cast. But one thing did stand out. It seems this movie will have a more linear story line. It will not feel whacky and out of place. If the last moment was called the Dawn of Justice, this is indeed the assembly of the Justice League and the struggles it took in being built. The studios decided to remain with Zack Snyder at the helm, and some are worried that this will cause another train wreck. But fear not, it appears DC learned from their mistakes.

Final Thoughts

I am willing to bet the farm this movie will be a smash hit and score much higher in rotten tomatoes than its predecessor. Already the trailer offered plenty to be excited about, and one could only assume they will work in the Black Suit Superman or multiple Supermans Returning angle into the plot, which will be very interesting for viewers and fans of the comics. As a huge Christian Bale fan, I must admit I was wrong about Ben Affleck. He sure does sell the Bruce Wayne role and has made for an entertaining Batman that will serve as the glue to forming the Justice League. Share your thoughts below on if you believe DC will finally hit it big, or if this movie will fall short of the bar set by the Avengers.

I’m with you on this one, the Batman vs Superman movie was perfect in my opinion and was actually different from Marvel, but that doesn’t mean Marvel movies are bad, just different.
