Clint Eastwood’s Dirty Harry character rarely acted friendly towards partners. The legendary actor surely has a warm welcome for the colleague who may be signing up for Eastwood’s new film. The former American Sniper Bradley Cooper in talks for The Mule, Eastwood’s latest project.

Cooper and Eastwood famously worked together on American Sniper, a film that earned hundreds of millions worldwide box office. American Sniper also garnered numerous awards including an Oscar for Cooper. Cooper hasn’t officially agreed to star in the film, but teaming again with Eastwood likely has nothing but upsides.

Clint Eastwood’s career deserves incredible respect for longevity. Eastwood established himself as a top star in the late 1960’s with the release of the “Man with No Name” westerns. He maintained a top spot as an actor for decades before moving into the director’s chair. As a director, Eastwood further achieved great success with several hit movies. Eastwood also performed both acting and directing chores on several projects. With The Mule, he does so again. At 88, Eastwood both directs and stars as the title character, a man down on his luck who unknowingly accepts a courier job for the drug cartels.

Cooper, interestingly, also soon moves into the role of actor-director. He does so with another remake of the classic film A Star is Born. Ironically, Eastwood was originally attached to direct A Star is Born. Working with Eastwood on The Mule certainly would help Cooper learn about being a successful actor-director.

Unfortunately for Cooper, A Star is Born already completed production. Cooper didn’t gain the benefit of seeing how Eastwood approaches the task prior to taking on all the responsibilities of A Star is Born. No matter though. Cooper can take his experience from A Star is Born and take his perspectives to The Mule. Afterward, he may find himself in a better position to handle actor-director duties in the future.

In time, Cooper’s career could model that of Eastwood’s. The actor turned actor-director may segue solely into the role of director. Such a career transition could be several years away. Cooper still has many years as a lead actor and box office attraction. Likely, he will pick a “dream project” at some point and step into both professional duties to bring the feature to the screen. Fans and critics both may be looking forward to that day.
