Titans is set to end its first season with a bang later this week. The season finale of the DC Universe series will pit Brenton Thwaites’ Dick Grayson/Robin against his former mentor, Batman. In promotional material released prior to the episode’s premiere, Batman is shown to have gone rogue. Killing many of his biggest adversaries, including the Joker and Two Face, Robin must intervene and stop the Dark Knight. Although Batman and his alter ego, Bruce Wayne, have appeared briefly as a shadowy figure throughout the season, the episode will mark the first full appearance of the Caped Crusader in the series. According to comingsoon.net, the series has yet to announce the name of actor who will be playing Batman in the episode.
Most fans take the Robin versus Batman storyline of the episode as a hallucination brought on by Trigon, the chief antagonist of the season. Trigon is the demonic father of Raven, played in the series by Teagan Croft. Released from his supernatural prison in the previous week’s episode, Trigon is already shown to have isolated Robin from the rest of his team. In addition to promotional material relating to the Robin versus Batman storyline, DC Universe also released screen captures from the episode featuring Dick living a peaceful domestic life with actress Minka Kelly’s Dawn Granger, who is also known as the vigilante Dove. In the spoilery offering, Dick and Dawn are shown to have a child together. As fans of the series know, Dawn had a brief affair with Dick in flashbacks earlier in the season. The actor who plays her crimefighting partner and boyfriend Hawk, Alan Ritschson, praised the series while speaking to reporters earlier this year. For Ritschson, Titans sets itself apart from other superhero series by showing the day-to-day struggles the characters go through as they try to live a normal life.
DC Universe will release the episode, entitled “Dick Grayson” on December 21. Fans of Titans will be happy to know that DC Universe has already ordered a second season of the series. While no premiere date for season two has been set, a spinoff series, Doom Patrol, is scheduled to premiere in February of next year. Most characters from Doom Patrol were introduced in the fourth episode of Titans. The series will follow the ragtag group of heroes as they are given a mission by Justice League member Cyborg.
