English actor Tom Hardy has been in his fair share of action and adventure movies, with major roles in films like Black Hawk Down, The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, and The Dark Knight Rises.

While it’s easy to say he’s really good at fighting people on screen, it also happens to be true that he has some pretty serious martial arts skills in real life.

Recently, Hardy entered a martial arts tournament in the city of Milton Keyes, which is located about an hour and a half outside of London, in Buckinghamshire.

Hardy, who has experience as a trained MMA fighter and is a blue belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu, managed to enter the open tournament initially without notice as he entered the competition using his legal name Edward Hardy, as opposed to his much more well-known middle name, Thomas.

Despite facing off against a long line of fierce, seasoned jiu jitsu veterans, Hardy managed to completely blow away the competition, being noted as an exceptionally strong and skilled fighter by both spectators and participants.

Hardy’s motivation for entering the competition wasn’t due to just personal interest; he was doing it for a cause.

He decided to represent REORG, an organization that works to help military veterans and first responders who have experienced physical or psychological damage in the pursuit of their work overcome the problems they’re facing.

As many people in these professions experience huge issues, such as drug addiction, PTSD, or depression, the organization uses jiu jitsu as a way to help contend with and overcome these obstacles.

Many people who were present at the competition remarked how incredibly modest and gracious Tom Hardy’s conduct was. Despite being a huge movie star who overcame his opponents with relative ease, he was incredibly easy to get along with and left a great impression on the people who were there.
