Tuesday was not a good day to be a fan of the Boston Red Sox. The team had a doubleheader with the Detroit Tigers as a result of their game getting rained out on Monday. For the Red Sox, it would have been better if the rain kept falling on Tuesday. The Tigers are clearly in a rebuilding mode. Nobody expects the team to do much of anything this year. However, they came into Fenway Park and gave the defending World Series champions more than they could handle. The Red Sox lost both games of the doubleheader. The two losses dropped the Red Sox record to a very disappointing 9-15. They are only a half game ahead of the Baltimore Orioles for last place in the division.

The afternoon game was a bit of a victory for the Red Sox, if not on the scoreboard. They lost the game by a score of 7-4. However, they got a very good performance from Chris Sale. That is something that they had not been able to say so far this year. Sale has been one of the biggest disappointments for the Red Sox this year. He has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the past several years. However, he had been very ineffective until Tuesday. He went five innings and only gave up two earned runs.

The Tigers defeated the Red Sox by a score of 4-2 in the nightcap of the doubleheader. This removed all of the good vibes that were created over the weekend when the Red Sox swept the Tampa Bay Rays. There is no question that the Red Sox have many problems to solve before they can start stringing some wins together. However, they will need to do that very soon. Pennants are not won in April. However, they can certainly be lost in April. The Red Sox are not in a position where they need to start panicking. They just need to be careful not to fall too much further behind.

The Tigers are now two games over the .500 mark. This is certainly much better than any of the supposed experts thought they would do this year. They have gone past their expectation at this point in the season. However, it remains to be seen how long they will be able to keep playing like this. They are a very young team with many players who are anxious to prove they belong.
