Combat sports fans interested in seeing a return match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are going to be disappointed. Mayweather went on the record to state he is not interested in another match with the controversial mixed martial arts fighter. Clearly, Mayweather doesn’t need the money. The first Mayweather/McGregor fight allowed the box earn well over $100 million.

Originally, Mayweather didn’t end his career after that fight. At the age of 41, Mayweather logged his 50th victory with the hard-fought battle against McGregor. He also left the door open for another fight. Looks like he’s back into retirement now as Mayweather revealed no real desire in taking an MMA fight.

The most unfortunate thing about this retirement is the second match between the two probably going to be an MMA fight. The chances of Mayweather pulling out of victory in a hybrid martial arts battle against a top fighter such as McGregor would have been low. Then again, few people gave McGregor anything more than a chance to last the first or second round against one of the greatest boxers whoever stepped in the ring. McGregor greatly performed beyond expectations. How would Mayweather do out of his element? The answer would go hand-in-hand with millions of pay per views buys.

And then a “sports Babylon” moment occurred.

Likely influencing Mayweather‘s decision is the current legal troubles that Conor McGregor has found himself in. In a strange incident last month, McGregor attacked a bus filled with UFC fighters.

For reasons no one can figure out, Conor McGregor threw a dolly at a bus filled with competitors performing promotional duties for UFC 223. The dolly smashed and shattered the window causing serious damage. Broken glass flew around inside the bus. Fighter Michael Chiesa suffered a serious cut in the incident.

McGregor has not yet been banned from the UFC for the incident, but this may be the least of his problems. The second the dolly went airborne, legal ramifications were unavoidable. McGregor was hit with several criminal charges. Pundits noted that McGregor will likely see the worst punishment done to him in civil court than in a criminal one. The incident should cost him a lot of money, possibly millions. A Mayweather rematch certainly could help his financial situation.

Mayweather probably doesn’t want to be involved in a spectacle by associating himself with the now-in-hot-water McGregor.
