Jets QB Sam Darnold Diagnosed With Mono

One of the most exciting players in the NFL is Sam Darnold. He is the quarterback of the New York Jets. He was beginning his second season. There are many people who believe that the sky is the limit for him because he is so talented. The bad news is that Darnold might not be playing football again for a very long time. He did not play well in his first game of the year. He then felt very tired a few days later. He was diagnosed with strep throat. The team doctor decided to do a test to see if he had mononucleosis. The test was positive.

Mono is a viral illness that affects people in different ways. In many cases, the person loses a lot of weight and feels very tired for a long period of time. It is not a pleasant illness for a regular person. However, it is much worse for a person who plays football for a living. This is because a person’s spleen becomes enlarged when they have mono. There is a serious risk of the spleen popping if the person gets hit in the wrong location. It that should happen, the health consequences could be very severe.

The Jets have already said that Sam Darnold will not be playing in their upcoming game against the Cleveland Browns on Monday night. However, that is the least of the Jets’ worries at this point. There is a very real possibility that Darnold could miss the entire 2019 season. There have not been many players in the history of the NFL who have had mono. However, it is interesting to note that none of the previous players who had mono were able to come back in the same season in which they were diagnosed.
