Hold onto your hats San Francisco 49ers fans, it is about to become a bumpy road. On the heels of an incredible finish to the 2017 regular season, in which quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo led the 49ers to five consecutive victories, Niners players and fans alike were dreaming of a run at the NFC West crown this season. Now, that dream has quickly turned into a nightmare.

San Francisco team officials confirmed on Monday afternoon that Garoppolo suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Sunday’s 38-27 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now the Niners fate for the remainder of the season lies in the hands of backup CJ Beathard. Beathard, who like Garoppolo is relatively new to the 49ers organization, played a handful of games last season before giving way to Garoppolo following a Week 12 injury that sidelined him for the rest of the year.

Jimmy G didn’t start the 2018 season as hot as he finished 2017, but his confidence and ability to read the defense is going to be sorely missed. Garoppolo threw for 718 yards and five touchdowns through the first three games of 2018.

Now the burning question everyone has been asking for the past 24 hours – will the 49ers reach out to former quarterback Colin Kaepernick?

In his recent press conference on Tuesday, head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked if the organization thought about bringing QB Colin Kaepernick back. His response was swift. “No.”

Shanahan did go on to say that the team did discuss bringing back Kaepernick last season, but the connection was never made. The offense Shanahan runs with 49ers now is much different than it was when Kap was running the show back in 2013, and it seems he wants to keep things that way.

No matter who will be the main signal caller for San Francisco from here on out, Las Vegas oddsmakers have already lost their faith in the team from a gaming point of view. The 49ers were listed at 28/1 to win the big game next February before Garoppolo’s injury. However, following the official word that the 26-year old will be out for the remainder of the season, the 49ers odds dropped to an incredible 100/1.
