The professional sports scene in St. Louis, Missouri got a jolt of much-needed enthusiasm this year when the MLB team’s respectable 88-74 record gave it a legitimate shot at making the 2018 postseason.

However, after the Cards triumphantly rose above the Chicago Cubs on September 29 to keep their playoff hopes alive in a 2-1 road win, the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled out a road win of their own and defeated the San Francisco Giants later that day. It would have taken two Cardinals wins and two Dodgers losses during the last weekend of September for St. Louis to force a heroic game 163 at home on October 1. during that last weekend in September.

The Wild Card race in the MLB’s National League was wide open back then and the Cardinals’ hard work in the 2018 season gave St. Louis sports fans something to be proud of. However, more national news has emerged recently in the world of professional baseball’s off season, which is making the Cards front and center once again for something else that is significantly promising.

Paul Goldschmidt, a first baseman for the MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks ball club, has been officially traded to the Cardinals. The 6’3″ 225-pound Goldschmidt was a great asset to his former team. For starters, the 31-year-old is .297 in career hits and has cracked his bats with 209 career home runs. Goldschmidt’s 710 career RBIs are the icing on the cake for the brand new Cardinal who has played 1000 games in his career.

The Cardinals picking up Goldschmidt via trade is really big news because MLB experts contend that he is viewed as one of the best Arizona MLB franchise players of all time. It will be super exciting to see what type of intangibles he brings to the Cardinals bullpen during Spring Training in 2019. Goldschmidt will certainly bring veteran leadership to a promising Missouri ball club with a historic championship pedigree and future potential.
