The Los Angeles Dodgers are back in the Fall Classic for the second year in a row! That’s the good news. The bad news is that they are going up against the Boston Red Sox – a team that is arguably better than the 2017 Houston Astros, the team the Dodgers lost to in the 2017 Fall Classic.

Nevertheless, Dodger fans aren’t interested in hearing about the upcoming for better or worse World Series matchups – they just want to let their Dodger dogs, garlic fries and funnel cakes settle and enjoy another National League Pennant. On the other side of the spectrum, Brewers fans may be drowning themselves in a few Miller Lites to hinder the memory of getting so close to reaching the championship round.

Milwaukee has nothing to hang their heads about as they defied MLB experts and oddsmakers all season long just by reaching the NLCS. The Brewers were listed in many Las Vegas sports books at +3500 or higher back in spring training to win the 2018 World Series. They fell just five wins short.

The USA Today indicates that it took Los Angeles all seven games in their best-of-seven NLCS to eliminate the Brew Crew, but in the end, the Dodgers took step one of their two-step goal for the 2018 season. First was returning to the Fall Classic, second is winning it. Last season the Dodgers were one win away of their first championship since 1988 when they lost Game 7 at home to the Astros. That memory still stings.

While Los Angeles does not have home field advantage this season, they will host games three through five, which is almost just as good, especially if they can sneak out a win in one of the first two games in Boston.

It will be interesting to see how the fans in Boston react to Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts when he is introduced during Game 1. The current Dodgers skipper lives in Boston folklore, as he was a huge part of the Red Sox 2004 championship. Sox fans still talk about Roberts’ stolen base during the 2004 ALCS that arguably started Boston’s incredible come from behind series win against the New York Yankees.

Don’t be surprised if Roberts gets a standing ovation when first introduced – then booed until the World Series is complete.

Game 1 of the 2018 World Series will take place on Tuesday, October 23 from Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. First pitch is scheduled for just after 8:00 p.m. ET.
