Myth: Eating a Large Meal Will Slow Down Your Metabolism

Fact: It is not a good idea to overeat. However, your metabolism will not slow down just because you eat a large meal. Many people are told that eating small meals is better than eating large meals, but there is no truth to that myth either.

It is better to measure your calories rather than the amount of food that you eat. Your overall calorie intake will have more of an impact on your metabolism.

Myth: You Slow Down Your Metabolism When You Skip Meals

Fact: You do not want to get into the habit of skipping meals. However, doing so will not slow down your metabolism. You will have to restrict your calorie intake for a long time in order to decrease your metabolism. Even though you will not slow down your metabolism by skipping meals, you will be depriving yourself of the nutrients that you need.

Myth: Caffeinated Beverages Raise Your Metabolism

Fact: A cup of coffee or tea can temporarily raise your metabolism. However, you should not rely on it to keep your metabolism going. Not only is caffeine a temporary metabolism booster but drinking too much of it can cause problems. Jitteriness, sleepless nights and heart palpitations.

It is better for you to keep yourself hydrated by drinking a lot of water. Being dehydrated can slow down your metabolism, but staying hydrated can boost your metabolism.

Myth: Your Metabolism is set by Genetics

Fact: Genetics is one of the factors that determine your metabolism. However, there are other things that you can do to increase it. For example, strength training can increase your metabolism. You can also do cardio.

Myth: Hot Peppers Can Increase It

Fact: Hot peppers really do not do much for your metabolism. The peppers temporarily raise your metabolism, but you probably will not lose weight by eating them. Additionally, the temporary increase in metabolism is only slight.
