Deontay Wilder Says Weight of Costume Caused Loss to Tyson Fury

One of the biggest heavyweight boxing matches in the history of the sport recently took place in Las Vegas. Tyson Fury took on Deontay Wilder for the undisputed heavyweight title. Both fighters have never tasted defeat in their brilliant careers. It turned out that the fight was not a close contest. Tyson Fury dominated the fight from start to finish. Fury eventually won the fight by knocking out Wilder in the seventh round. After the fight was over, Wilder had a very interesting excuse as to why he lost the fight. He made the claim tat Fury was not hurting him with his punches. Instead, Wilder said that the weight of the costume that he wore during his walk to the ring made his legs very tired.

Wilder claims that the costume weighed at least 40 pounds. This weight made his legs more tired than they would normally be by the seventh round of the fight. His legs were clearly bothering him. Wilder was not nearly as mobile as he usually is during a fight. However, there are many fans and members of the boxing media who are not buying that excuse. People are saying that a boxer who is as muscular as Wilder is should be able to carry a costume that weighs 40 pounds for the short distance from the dressing room to the ring.

Wilder also blasted his coach for throwing in the towel and having the fight stopped. He claims that he could have fought for five more rounds. Wilder mentioned that he had told his coach to never throw in the towel under any circumstances because he is a warrior who wants to go out on his shield. That having been said, Wilder’s coach was watching his fighter get pummeled by the bigger Fury for the better part of seven rounds. He finally saw enough and threw in the towel to save his fighter.

Deontay Wilder says that he wants to have a third fight with Fury. That might happen in the future. However, it most likely will not be the next fight that Tyson Fury takes. There are many people who believe a bout with Anthony Joshua is the most likely fight that Fury will be interested in next. Joshua defeated Andy Ruiz in their second fight late last year. Therefore, Joshua and Fury fighting against each other would get a lot of attention.
