Colts Deal Chiefs First Loss of Season

One of the teams that many people expect to contend for the Super Bowl this season is the Kansas City Chiefs. They have a loaded team that came very close to defeating the Patriots and getting to the Super Bowl last year. However, Tom Brady was able to pull out the victory. Patrick Mahomes was able to rewrite the record books for rookie quarterbacks last year. The Chiefs started the season by winning their first four games. Therefore, it should not be a surprise that the Chiefs were a very heavy favorite going into their Sunday night game against the Indianapolis Colts in Kansas City.

It was another big passing game for Mahomes. He threw for more than 350 yards. However, he was not able to get his team into the end zone like he usually does. The Colts won the game by a score of 19-13. This was a very big upset. Not many people predicted this outcome because the Chiefs have a huge advantage when they play in Kansas City. Not much was expected from the Colts this season. Quarterback Andrew Luck retired before the start of the season. That made the untested Jacoby Brissett the new starter. He did not play great on Sunday night. However, he was able to do enough to help his team win the game.

It is a common belief that the Chiefs and the Patriots will be battling each other for supremacy in the AFC at the end of the season. Only time will tell if that is the case. Both teams seem to be a cut about all of their competition. It is essential that both teams are able to stay healthy and avoid any key injuries. The Chiefs might have taken the young Colt team for granted. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid says that is not the case. He assured the media after the game that his team had properly prepared. They just did not execute as well as expected.

The Colts have a lot of talented players who are very young. They are still a few years away from seriously contending for a Super Bowl title. However, they might be able to reach the playoffs if everything goes right for them. The Chiefs are poised to win the team’s first Super Bowl since 1971. It will be interesting to see if Mahomes will be able to do this in his second year.
