Men growing up in the 80s likely remember using the Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES. One of the most well-known video games for the NES was Contra. Many guys remember getting their buddies together for hours of alien-shooting fun while playing Contra. Konami, the studio known for creating the Contra series, recently released major news concerning the future of this legendary video game franchise. In this post, you’ll learn the exact details of the upcoming Contra reboot.

Techspot reports that this new Contra project will take place in both the 80s and present times. This remake begins with a meteorite landing in Chinese waters. Two local men are sent in to investigate the site of the meteorite crash but find nothing. With that in mind, one of the original investigators sends American soldiers Bill and Lance to go back to the meteorite crash, 29 years later.

After Contra’s original release on the NES, the game would go on to spawn many sequels. Throughout the late 80s and 90s, Contra games were made for the NES, Super Nintendo, and Sega Genesis video game systems. Many feel that the recent popularity of the Castlevania remake, another classic NES video game, may have had Konami interested in pursuing a reboot of the Contra series.

Konami looks to partner with Starlight Films in order to have this film released. This means that fans of Contra in America might have to wait to see a proper American remake of the series. However, Lance Bean and Bill Rizer are reported to be featured in this project. Fans of Contra will remember playing as either Lance or Bill in the original NES game.

In summary, Konami recently announced that both a television show and movie of Contra are both in the works. The video game studio recently reported that it will partner with Starlight Films in order to create the new Contra television show and feature film. North American fans of Contra will still need to wait in order to receive a domestic reboot of the franchise.
