In case you didn’t know, Ryan Seacrest has a line of suits called “Ryan Seacrest Distinction” that is sold exclusively at Macy’s. The line was launched in 2014 when the host of “American Idol” created a clothing line that’s affordable with perpetually on-sale models. The brand is a result of successful cooperation: the Japanese brand Itochu makes the dress shirts, Randa Accessories makes the accessories and Peerless Clothing manufactures the suits.

Seacrest’s label is all about helping out its customers. “Distinction” does not overestimate the style sensibility of its target market, so it’s sewn some helpful tags into the suits and called it “style made smart” color-matching system. The tags are printed with the numbers 1-4, according to the color and style.

The idea and theory behind this system are simple: Match the color and style with “Ryan Seacrest Distinction” accessories and ties, and you can never go wrong! Whatever you do, it will always match. This was inspired by how Ryan gets dressed for work, and according to the Wall Street Journal report, the idea came from Randa.

This is especially useful for beginners who don’t know where to start when buying and styling their suits. Seacrest’s clothing line also has the added benefit for the brand of keeping a new customer’s purchases all under the same umbrella. “Distinction” is a great place to start if you’re unable or unwilling to learn about accessorizing a suit properly.

“Sportswear” Line Gives More Freedom

Ryan Seacrest went where no man has gone before – at least when it comes to Macy’s and its tailored-clothing department. The famous producer and entrepreneur expanded his “Ryan Seacrest Distinction” clothing line last year by offering sportswear (or what it is calling “lifewear”) that was merchandised within the suit area in 150 Macy’s stores. According to Seacrest’s team, “Ryan Seacrest Distinction” has been the strongest men’s dress clothing brand launch for Macy’s in more than a decade.

“Ryan Seacrest is the definition of a modern man, building a multimedia empire all while impeccably dressed,” said Karin Darmanin, Macy’s executive vice president of men’s and kids. “His dynamic life inspires the designs behind Ryan Seacrest Distinction. Ryan knows the importance of day-to-night dressing, as he navigates between his morning radio show, daily business meetings and red carpet events. His collection for Macy’s now includes essential pieces designed to coordinate with the suiting, that offer great versatility and fashion for a modern career.”

“Distinction” has focused on clothing and furnishings but Seacrest was especially inspired when he introduced a Rio-inspired collection tied to his hosting duties at the Olympic Games in Brazil. Ryan realized that he wants to create the sportswear line, coupled with his own eclectic style. “The Rio collection was a limited run, but since then, we brought on Matteo to really focus on the distinction part of Distinction and why it’s special,” Seacrest explained.

“Lifewear is inspired by how I live,” Ryan said. “Our fall collection is an interpretation of how I actually dress these days. I may wear a blazer over a T-shirt or denim button-down shirt, or a more casual pant with a dress shirt and tie, or jeans with a sport coat with sneakers.” Extending the clothing line is designed to provide men with more freedom and flexibility. “Everything needs to go together effortlessly. The RSD collection pieces are easy and comfortable, in addition to being carefully tailored.”

The “lifewear” line also offers knits, wovens, bottoms and outwear with trim and detailing that modernize the looks but are not over the top. The line was designed to fill a void in the market and add a provocative twist to the traditional and everyday staples that men have grown up seeing their fathers wearing.

Five-pocket pants with jean construction, offered in a suit fabric, are another special piece and reportedly a favorite of Ryan Seacrest. “It’s pretty unique and comfortable,” Seacrest said. “I know I’ll be wearing that quite a bit.”

Finally, unlike many celebrity brands that disappeared after a season or two, the “Distinction” collection is here to stay. “We’re always hopeful and we’re happy that it has worked out. But we look at it as a real business and its success matters to us. I try to have that approach in everything I do, whether it’s the radio show, hosting or fashion. All the ventures are equally important,” he explained.
