The Formula
Summer season is back in Florida and with the nice hot weather also comes a lot of rain. As soon as the rain starts weeds start growing everywhere. The price of Roundup seems to go up every year just like everything else in life. Roundup sells at Home Depot between $10 to $12 bucks a gallon. You can also buy the concentrated bottle for $23 bucks and make about 5 gallons. That’s about $4.60 bucks a gallon. Doing a bit of research I found a homemade weed killer and I wanted to share it with my Bros. You might be asking yourself, how in the hell do I make weed killer? It’s actually simple and here are the ingredients.
- Half a gallon of vinegar
- Half a gallon of water
- Two table spoons of Dawn dish washing liquid
- Half a cup of Salt
Price Breakdown
The half a gallon of vinegar sells for $1.50 or less. Two table spoons of Dawn dish washing liquid equals to about $.12 considering 22 oz sells for $2.67. Half a cup of salt is $.13 since 26 oz sells for about $.90 and water is technically free. The total amount to make this weed killer is a grand total of $1.75 per gallon. You can actually lower it if you buy in bulk. All you are missing is a spray bottle but you can reuse your old RoundUp one. The next question is, is it effective? Yes! try it for yourself (no cheesy before and after picture).
How It Works
Vinegar is highly acidic and salt dehydrates the plant. This becomes a lethal combination with the soap which makes it stick to the weeds. You can always increase the potency of the weed killer by adding more vinegar and salt. Just be careful you don’t spray your good plants or apply too much since the rain can make the salt move to a good section. The best part about this homemade weed killer besides the cost is that it is organic and will not damage your soil. There you have it Bros, now kill those weeds, save some money and go on vacation.
