Tips for maintaining a healthy diet during the pandemic

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables

A diet packed with fruits and vegetables offers several benefits to the body. Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins, fiber, folate, and minerals. They are packed with antioxidants linked to a lower risk of heart disease, diabetes, some types of cancer, and obesity.

It is important to note that there is no single vegetable or fruit which contains all the nutrients the body requires. Therefore, you need to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables daily. If you have appetite issues eating lots of fruits can help keep your appetite in check.

Keep yourself hydrated

Water is life, and the human body consists of approximately 60% water. Water plays a critical role in maintaining health and ensuring bodily functions work correctly. Being dehydrated can make you feel sick, and that is a feeling you wish to avoid at all means during the pandemic. Dehydration can result in headaches, hypertension, low blood pressure, and compromised body immunity.

Drinking water is the best way to keep yourself hydrated. Experts recommend taking 8-10 glasses of water daily. Besides water, you can take other beverages such as black tea, green tea, and lemon juice.

Eat fats and oils moderately

Fats and oils are valuable components of a healthy diet. Fatty foods are bad for your health because they increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. Choose to take more unsaturated fats like canola, avocado, corn oil, fish, soy sunflower, and olive oil instead of saturated fats. Avoid processed meats and red meat as they are high in saturated fats.

Avoid eating out

Eating out does not mean you will get infected; however, there is an increased risk of being exposed to covid-19. Also, you are likely to make poor food choices whenever you eat out. You are likely to eat plenty of junk and sugar-rich drinks, which will negatively impact your health.
