The average American male spends about 7 hours a week on the treadmill, and that’s not including other activities like swimming or biking. But there are many things you can do outside of running on the treadmill as well. These 5 exercises will help you stay fit while still having fun!

1) Jumping Jacks – This is one of the best jumping exercises you can do. It helps build up your leg strength and works out your entire body. Start by standing with both feet together, then jump forward and back as far as you can without losing balance. Then keep going until you feel tired. Do this exercise 3 times each session.

2) Squats – The squat is an excellent exercise if you want to tone up your legs. Stand straight with your arms down at your sides. Then bend over and place your hands on the floor behind you so that your elbows are bent 90 degrees. Next, raise yourself up using only your quadriceps muscles (the front part of your thighs). Keep lifting your knees off the ground until they are almost parallel to the floor. Finally, push yourself back into a standing position. You should be able to go all the way down before pushing yourself back up again. Repeat this move 10 times.

3) Lateral Lunges – If you have trouble doing lunges because of knee pain, try these lateral lunges instead. Stand sideways with your left foot forward and right foot back. Step forward with your left foot and lower your body until your thigh is perpendicular to the floor. Push back up and repeat with your right foot forward. Continue alternating between steps forward and backward. Try to increase the distance you step forward with every set. Complete 8 sets.

4) Burpees – This is another great exercise that targets your core. Start lying faceup on the floor. Your feet should be shoulder-width apart, and your knees should be bent. Raise your hips and upper body off the floor so that your body forms a straight line from your head to your shoulders. Next, quickly bring your right arm directly above your head and perform a push-up motion. Next, jump your feet toward your chest and land with your feet flat on the floor. Now jump your feet away from your chest and land with them slightly wider than shoulder-width apart. That’s 1 rep. Perform 15 reps total.

5) Swimming: If you don’t live near water, you can use a pool or buy some inexpensive goggles and start swimming laps. Swimming is a low-impact activity that burns more calories than most other workouts. Plus, it’s easy on your joints.
