One of the biggest upsets of the 2018 NFL season took place on Thursday night at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. The Dallas Cowboys got a huge win against the New Orleans Saints. This win put the Cowboys in a great position to win their division. The Washington Redskins are the only other team that has a shot of winning the NFC East crown. According to sportingnews.com, none of the experts in the media gave the Cowboys and chance of winning this game. That is because the Saints had only lost one time this year and had reeled off a nine game winning streak.

The Saints have one of the most potent offenses in the NFL. They usually have no problem at all scoring at least 30 points in a game. This is due in large part to the historic season that QB Drew Brees has put together. He is better than ever at age 39. However, things would go much differently than they have all season for the Saints. The Cowboys defense was up to the challenge. They stifled the Saints attack and never allowed them to get any momentum going for the entire game. This is definitely not what people thought would happen in this game.

The Cowboys defeated the Saints 13-10. The loss was damaging to the Saints hopes of getting home field advantage throughout the playoffs. They are now 9-2 on the season. The Los Angeles Rams currently have the best overall record in the NFC at 10-1. The Saints have seemingly locked every other playoff advantage. They will most likely secure a bye in the first round of the playoffs. They will also have their first playoff game at home. On the other hand, the Cowboys are far from secure when it comes to the playoff picture. There are still many things that need to be decided in the NFC East.

The Saints had a chance to win this game late in the fourth quarter. They were able to get the ball back thanks to a costly Dallas turnover at the worst possible time. However, Drew Brees threw only his second interception of the season to end any chance of a thrilling Saints comeback victory. Saints head coach Sean Payton was disappointed with the way his offense performed. He was very surprised that the Cowboys were capable of putting together a scheme that was capable of shutting down the passing attack of Drew Brees.
