One of the most explosive and electrifying players in the NFL over the past five years has been wide receiver Odell Beckham of the New York Giants. He has thrilled fans with his ability to make spectacular catches with only one hand. However, he has also caused a great deal of controversy with his antics both on and off the field. This is the reason why his time in the Big Apple has finally come to an end. Beckham was traded to the Cleveland Browns for a first and a third round pick in the 2019 draft. The Giants will also receive safety Jabrill Peppers.

The trade has been a surprise to many members of the media who cover the NFL on a regular basis. There had been some talk that Beckham could be moved before the start of the season. However, very few people took it seriously. The primary reason why people did not think a Beckham trade would be completed is the fact that he is the highest paid wide receiver. Therefore, only a small handful of teams could afford to pay his hefty salary. The Browns are desperate to give Baker Mayfield a talented receiver to throw to on a regular basis. It would seem that they have finally found their man.

The Odell Beckham saga was an ugly one for the Giants and their fans. He did put up great numbers. There is no question about that. However, the Giants have posted a losing record in four out of the five seasons that Beckham has been with them. They only had one good season when they managed to compile an 11-5 record. However, they lost to the Green Bay Packers in their only playoff game. Beckham played terribly in that game and dropped a touchdown pass where he was wide open.

Beckham has continued to cause all sorts of problems and controversy with his inappropriate actions on the field and his divisive comments off the field. He said some very unflattering things about quarterback Eli Manning, who won a pair of Super Bowl MVP awards with the Giants. This made many Giants fans very angry. It is very clear that Beckham was wearing out his welcome in NYC when Giants owner John Mara made a rare public statement criticizing Beckham. The writing was on the wall at that point. It was only a matter of time until he was traded.
