Golf is Finally Focusing on Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods Once Again

When you take a look a golf 10 years ago, most of the hype was around Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. Just as in any sport, the stars get older and make room for younger talent. Most golf fans knew that Tiger and Phil would only have a few solid years in the limelight and fade away just like so many athletes. When these two golf legends started to show that they were human after all, the likes of Rickie Fowler, Bubba Watson, Jordan Speith and Justin Thomas took the spotlight. These younger golfers were ripping long drives and winning tournaments like never before.

With Tiger’s personal problems and Phil’s health issues, it was normal for the golf media to not be focusing their attention on these once superstar athletes. However, both golfers were determined to make a triumphant return no matter how long that would take. This year has proven to be very interesting for Tiger and Mickelson fans. Ending a five-year drought, Mickelson was just victorious over Justin Thomas at the WGC in Mexico City. This win shows that all of the hard work that Mickelson has put in over the past five years has really paid off. It was truly his beautiful short game that ended up helping him become a champion yet again.

Woods returning to competitive golf is a victory in itself. With so many back injuries, Woods himself wondered if he would ever return to competitive play. With his finish of 12th at The Honda Classic, it is safe to say that Woods is getting back into his groove. There are sports analysts who are predicting that Tiger could even win a major this year. It will be very interesting to see if Tiger has what it takes to get back to his previous performance in competitive golf.

It will be exciting to see these two golf superstars this year and watch their rise back to the top. If Tiger and Mickelson continue to play consistent competitive golf, a breath of fresh air could be breathed back into professional golf. With the lack of interest in organized sports from the younger generation, it is important to have golf celebrities like Tiger and Mickelson who can excite youth about the sport. Whether Mickelson can continue to win tournaments and have a chance at winning the FedEx Cup is still to be seen.
