If you’ve followed pop culture within the past few years, you’ve likely heard of Donald Glover. The man who got his big break by playing Troy on the cult television series “Community” has come a long way within the entertainment industry. Donald is a man whose talents excel within many fields including singing, acting, and writing. That being said, it appears that Donald Glover and his brother Stephen will not be completing an eagerly-awaited animated series based on the superhero Deadpool.
The amazing talent that goes into Donald’s writing can be seen on FX in a television program called “Atlanta.” Glover recently won an Outstanding Lead Actor for his performance in this hit series. One of Glover’s writing partners that helps create many of his projects is his brother, Stephen Glover. Considering that, many were excited as word began to spread that the Glover brothers would be creating a new series on the FXX network.
Unfortunately, it is unknown what caused the rift between the Glover brothers and the companies involved in this project. The Verge speculated that the reason for this split could be due to the recent acquisition of Marvel which is now owned by Disney. It’s understandable to think that an adult-themed take on one of their superheroes could have caused creative differences to take place. That being said, Deadpool is one of Marvel’s more adult-friendly superheroes which would make the previously mentioned reason seem odd.
To summarize, the long-awaited Deadpool animated series that was going to air on FXX is no longer taking place. Many fans were excited to find out that Donald and Stephen Glover, the minds behind “Atlanta”, had teamed up to begin another project. The main reason for this split was cited as being due to creative differences. That being said, it is unknown what exactly caused this partnership between the Glover brothers, FXX, and Marvel to come to an end. It’s worth noting that the FX television series “Legion,” based on Marvel’s X-Men franchise, shows no signs of stopping or being canceled.
