The highly-new anticipated new anti-superhero film “Venom” released several days ago. While the movie is being torn apart by the critics, it seems that moviegoers are enjoying the film in theaters. The movie is already on pace to take the No. 1 spot at the box office with a hefty opening weekend too.

The new Sony movie stars Tom Hardy as reporter Eddie Brock who ultimately becomes the title character. Venom arrives straight off the pages of Marvel comic books and was a popular nemesis in the Spider-Man comics over the years. He was even featured in one of the previous Spider-Man films done by Sam Raimi with Topher Grace portraying the villain. Years later, it has become is very own solo film, one of the first to give an anti-hero from the comics a movie to itself.

So far, the new movie has received a disappointing 31 percent overall score on the Rotten Tomatoes website. The site collects aggregate reviews and most critics are having a tough time deciding if the movie is dark, violent, humorous, or a hero flick. It may be all of the above, and according to Hot New Hip Hop, fans believe this is a great film. They’ve given it an 88 percent overall score based on nearly 2,000 reviews.

Not only is “Venom” receiving good marks on the website but it’s opening weekend box office results are on track to tell a positive story. Deadline reported that the film is estimated to take in $77 to $80 million for this first weekend to start off October. The site indicates that it will take down a previous record of $55.7M set by the movie “Gravity” starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

It appears for the most part that audiences don’t let critics spoil their decisions or opinions of what to see and enjoy at the theaters. Just last weekend, the new Kevin Hart comedy “Night School” took the top spot at the box office despite an overall 28 percent rating. Now, Tom Hardy’s “Venom” is about to take a major bite out of the box office despite critics trying to contain the destructive monster early in its romp.
