Thor’s Chris Hemsworth Welcomes Deadpool to the MCU
For the past year, the wheels have been turning slowly on the Disney – Fox acquisition. While many outside of the industry have looked at the acquisition as another step toward Disney’s ultimate media dominance, members of the Disney family have quite a different perspective. Leading the way has been Chris Hemsworth, the man who has played the Avenger Thor for the better part of the past decade. After the acquisition of Fox by Disney was complete, Hemsworth was quick to give a shout out to a couple of new ‘family members’.
After the Disney – Fox acquisition was completed, Chris Hemsworth took to Instagram in order to officially welcome Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, to the company. Deadpool is a famous Marvel character who has been owned by Fox and thus held separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the acquisition of Fox and their various media assets, there is a very real possibility that Deadpool finds his way into the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadpool has been one of Fox’s most popular properties and it stands to reason that Disney would want to cash in on the character’s broad, name-brand appeal.
While Kevin Feige, the man behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been relatively mum on the new Fox media assets, there is growing hope that change is coming to the MCU. With ‘Avengers: Endgame’ just around the corner, fans are starting to look at the superhero genre beyond the tried-and-true characters that have helped to establish it. With the grim reality looming that major characters will be killed off in ‘Endgame’, there is a feeling in the air that the Fox acquisition will supply replacements in order to prop up the medium. Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool has been one of the most popular comic book properties of the last five or six years, so he would slide seamlessly into Disney’s primetime lineup.
With all of that being said, there is a long way to go before Disney starts unveiling or incorporating their new properties into their established Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans are still unsure as to how Disney will handle the ‘X-Men’ franchise and all of the superstar talents that are currently working inside of it. While Disney is in possession of a whole slate of brand-name characters, bringing them over in the right way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will likely take time, effort, patience, and a little bit of luck.
