Fans of horror can look forward to more blood and gore from Netflix’s Fear Street franchise in the future. According to reporters from the horror news junket Bloody Disgusting, the streamer is in the advanced stages of development on new films set in the original trilogy’s universe. Bloody Disgusting‘s report comes days after Fear Street author and infamous Goosebumps scribe R.L. Stine relayed that he has heard rumors of Netflix developing new entries in the series, although he himself is not involved in the service’s creative process.

Last year’s Fear Street trilogy was a major success for Netflix. The series follows the residents of the fictional town of Shadyside, a community plagued by a series of killings that are attributed to the witch Sarah Fier, who was killed in 1666. Each entry in the series paid homage to major films in horror history, such as Friday the 13th, Scream, and 2015’s The Witch. While the film trilogy was based on the Fear Street young adult novels written by Stine, Netflix’s adaptation was decidedly for adult audiences. In commenting on the streamer’s changes to his work, Stine embraced Netflix and director Leigh Janiak’s original vision. Speaking with reporters from Yahoo Entertainment, Stine said that he was initially shocked by the adaptation, pointing out that he never wrote any R-rated content and never foresaw his work being turned into a slasher film.

Thus far no information has been released on where new entries in the series will take audiences. Nevertheless, given the narrative structure of the series, viewers can speculate that it will probably follow one of the Shadyside killers cursed to commit murder by the witch. Among the fan favorites introduced in the Fear Street series is Ruby Lane, who is portrayed by Jordyn Dinatale. As revealed in the films, Ruby was compelled to commit murder in 1965, when she killed 8 of her friends with a straight razor. The new film could also introduce audiences to an original character previously unseen in the series.

The Fear Street trilogy is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
