The CW recently announced that it has ordered a pilot for a television adaptation of the well known 80s vampire movie The Lost Boys. The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood. The entertainment news magazine reports that The CW was originally considering an adaptation of The Lost Boys for the 2016 to 2017 television season. This iteration was being helmed by Rob Thomas, who is best known for his work with the fan favorite detective series Veronica Mars. Thomas’s version of the series never made it to the pilot stage, but executives at The CW retained high hopes for a rebooted take on the film. As Thomas is now working on a relaunch of Veronica Mars for Hulu, Scandal writer Heather Mitchell offered the network her take on the series, whose pilot is now going into production. Thomas is, however, expected to serve as an executive producer if the series gets picked up by the network.

The synopsis of the series sets it in the city Santa Carla, an idyllic beach town with a secret vampire underworld. In the series, two brothers come to Santa Carla after the death of their father. Their mother hopes for a fresh start in the city, which is also her hometown. The family gets more than they bargained for as the two brothers became entangled in the world of the undead. The original Lost Boys film is a classic of the 80s horror genre. The film starred Jason Patric and Corey Haim as Michael and Sam Emerson, two brothers who accidentally become involved with a group of vampires headed by the psychotic David, who is played by actor Kiefer Sutherland.

The Lost Boys series was one of several pilots ordered by The CW earlier this week. The network also ordered a spinoff of Jane the Virgin entitled Jane the Novela and an untitled series based on the Nancy Drew book series. The CW also ordered a spinoff of Riverdale centering around classic Archie Comics character Katy Keene.
