After the record-breaking premiere of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel surprised fans earlier this week with news that two new television series, Ghost Rider and Helstrom, would be coming to Hulu next year. Ghost Rider will be executive produced by Jeph Loeb, who also heads Marvel TV, and Ingrid Escajeda will serve as the program’s showrunner. The series will follow the adventures of the latest iteration of the character, Robbie Reyes. The character previously appeared in season four of the ABC series Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, played by actor Gabriel Luna. While Luna will play the character in the Hulu series, the show will ignore the continuity established by Agents of SHIELD.
Helstrom follows brother-sister duo Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the children of a prolific serial killer. In the series, Daimon and Ana will confront the worst of humanity as they deal with their own complex family dynamic. Like Ghost Rider, Helstrom will be executive produced by Jeph Loeb and Paul Zbyszewski will serve as showrunner. Speaking with reporters, Zbyszewski said that he is a lifelong fan of Marvel Comics and is thrilled to introduce television audiences to the darker side of the Marvel world.
While fans of Marvel are understandably excited by the news of Ghost Rider and Helstrom coming to Hulu, many are theorizing that the Marvel vampire Blade might also be coming to the streaming service. In Hulu’s announcement, they tell viewers that the “Spirits of Vengeance are coming” to the service. Spirits of Vengeance is the name of a recent Marvel Comics series that saw a team-up featuring Ghost Rider, Daimon and Ana Helstrom, and Blade.
The relationship between Marvel and Hulu has strengthened in recent months, mostly owing to Disney’s merger with Fox, which gave the House of Mouse a majority share with the streamer. Additionally, four adult animation Marvel series will also be premiering on Hulu in the near future, including Howard the Duck, M.O.D.O.K., Tigra and Dazzler, and Hit-Monkey. Marvel’s Runaways will also be launching its third season on Hulu at an unspecified date.
