Actor Kevin Spacey found himself in a whirlwind of sexual assault allegations last October and that has led to the previously good public perception of the actor dropping. The release of his newest movie, “Billionaire Boys Club” this past Friday has given plenty of evidence that maybe critics and moviegoers aren’t interested in anything he has to offer.

On Saturday, Hollywood Reporter gave the details of the awful opening stats for the film. The new movie took in just $126 this past Friday with its opening in just eight theaters in the United States. That’s correct, $126 with no additional zeroes. The new film had its initial premiere on video on demand streaming ahead of the release but its lack of success may also be based on Spacey’s image. So far it may have shown that audiences are not willing to tolerate projects involving actors who have multiple sexual allegations against them.

The earnings mark a career-low for the actor who previously rose to success in films such as “LA Confidential,” “The Usual Suspects,” and “American Beauty.” He took home Academy Awards for the latter two of these projects. Spacey was also among the stars in 2017’s hit “Baby Driver” which took in a lifetime gross of over $107 million. His all-time best film was “Superman Returns” back in 2006 where he played sinister villain Lex Luthor. That Warner Bros. film earned just over $200 million.

Described as a thriller, “Billionaire Boys Club” also stars Ansel Elgort (“Baby Driver”), Taron Egerton, and Emma Roberts. The R-rated movie chronicles the story of a “get-rich-quick” scam that wealthy Los Angeles boys developed back in the early 1980s. Ultimately, it has some serious consequences. Among the real-world consequences for what may be a terrible overall movie featuring an actor the public has no interest in, are poor reviews. So far, there’s only a handful at Rotten Tomatoes where the film has a paltry 13 percent aggregate rating.

After the sexual allegations surfaced against the actor late last year, Spacey’s then-employer Netflix chose to cut ties with him. Since 2013 he appeared in the “House of Cards” main role as Frank Underwood. While it appeared that the show might end prematurely, the streaming platform will bring forth a final season with regular series actress Robin Penn Wright taking over as the lead character.
