Kanye West is not only known for the rap game and for making controversial headlines. The rapper also makes some heavily-coveted sneakers. The Yeezy sneakers tend to draw plenty of people to lines once they become available and high aftermarket prices once they sell out. Even NBA stars love to wear them on court. However, Ye’s upcoming Adidas Yeezy basketball kicks won’t be allowed by the NBA for their players. That my mean changing the design up, though.

ESPN’s Nick DePaula reported that the all-black edition of Kanye’s latest Yeezy kicks is just fine. It’s the other colorway that the NBA isn’t allowing on the court because it has reflective “3M” detailing on the heel. The NBA feels this particular aspect of the shoe would distract fans in attendance as well as those watching via television.

With Kanye expected to debut a new edition of the Yeezy in 2019, he and his design team will need to send some of those redesigned sneakers to the league office by early December. This would allow players to wear the new Yeezy shoes after the NBA All-Star break which arrives in February. Adidas athletes were set to wear the debut edition shoes this coming season.

Among the NBA All-Star players who represent the brand are James Harden of the Houston Rockets, Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers, and Kristaps Porzingis of the New York Knicks. The NBA season is scheduled to start within a few weeks. Ye’s team already missed an August deadline to send in sneakers for league consideration in the first half of the season.

As of this report, Ye’s team has yet to send in any sneakers for the NBA’s front office to review. However, the league office had a look at the version that Kanye showed online (via Instagram) and felt it would not be permitted. So it may be back to the drawing board if Ye and his team want the shoes on full display on the NBA hardwood at some point this NBA season.
