Boston Celtics destroy Chicago Bulls for worst loss in team history

It was a record-setting night in the NBA for both the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls. It was a good record for the Celtics and their fans, but not so much for fans of the Bulls. The Celtics won the road game in Chicago by a final of 133-77, and yes, that is the official box score.

As ESPN reported, Boston’s win by 56 points made for the franchise’s largest margin of victory ever. The team’s previous best was a victory by 51 points over the Philadelphia Warriors back in March of 1962. Boston also was able to tie an all-time record in the league as the largest margin of victory for a road team. The Seattle Supersonics had a 136-80 win in a road game against Houston back in December of 1986.

As for the Chicago Bulls, they were able to set a new franchise record as well. Unfortunately, it was for the largest loss in the history of the team. They previously endured a 53-point loss (127-74) against Minnesota back in 2001.

The Celtics were lead to the easy victory by Jaylen Brown’s 23 points off the bench and Daniel Theis’ career-high of 22 points and 10 rebounds. It was Boston’s fifth-straight win as they improved to 15-10 for the season.

The Celtics also received 18 points from Jayson Tatum and 15 points from Terry Rozier. Boston came out 17-0 from the opening tip and were leading 64-43 at halftime.

On the opposing side, Zach LaVine finished with just 11 points, despite being among the league’s top 20 or so scorers this season. Following the loss, he said, “We all should be [embarrassed].”

Only three Chicago players finished in double-digits for scoring. Beyond LaVine, no other starters were able to achieve that mark. Shaquille Harrison came off the bench to score 20 points and Cameron Payne also had 10 points off the bench. The Bulls were outrebounded 54-37 for the night, but basically were outplayed in a major way, on their home court.

The Bulls dropped to a dismal 6-21 overall with the embarrassing loss. They’re now 4-10 in home games, and nowhere near the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference, even if it’s still early in the season. Chicago is looking towards another NBA Draft for a chance to get more help for their struggling squad.
