Season two of Marvel’s The Punisher was recently released on Netflix and showrunner Steve Lightfoot says that he is already planning for the show’s potential third season. Season two of the show saw Frank trying to rebuild his life after the events of the first season. Fate, however, had different plans for the decorated Marine, as Frank found himself drawn into a conflict involving national politics and a group of alt-right white supremacists. The end of the season saw Frank fully taking-on the mantle of the Punisher, gunning down two rival gangs in a deserted warehouse. As fans eagerly await news of what could be in store for the show’s next season, Lightfoot teases that season three might bring-in some Marvel Comics heavyweights.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Lightfoot says that if the show is renewed for season three, he plans on including Daredevil and Kingpin in the main story arc. As fans of Netflix’s Marvel shows know, Frank first appeared in season two of Marvel’s Daredevil looking for a gang involved in the murder of his family. In the course of the season, Frank tangled with Daredevil himself and even quarreled with Kingpin when he was sent to prison. While Frank and Daredevil established an easy alliance at the end of the season, Lightfoot says that he and Kingpin are still bitter enemies. The showrunner points out that Frank and Kingpin have fought numerous times in the comics, and he feels that fans would love to see the show do an adaptation of some classic Punisher storylines. Lightfoot would also like to take the show’s focus back to New York City. While much of season two took place in New York, a large portion of it was set in the Midwest.

Lightfoot’s plans for including Daredevil next season is sure to attract the attention of fans of the character. After a critically acclaimed three-season run, Netflix canceled Daredevil last November. The move did not sit well with fans but was somewhat expected as Netflix appears to have a strained relationship with Marvel. Prior to Daredevil’s cancelation, two other Marvel shows, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, were also canceled by the streaming giant. With no news on a season three pickup, Jon Bernthal, the actor who plays Frank in the series, says that he fully accepts that season two could be his final go as the skull-wearing antihero.
