News recently broke in Hollywood that writer/director Matthew Vaughn is working on a third installment of the popular Kingsman series. According to initial reports, Kingsman III will be released on November 9th of 2019.

It’s not clear if any of the cast members in the previous two films will reprise their roles in the third film. Most film experts, however, believe actor Taron Egerton will return as protagonist Gary “Eggsy” Unwin.

In interviews with the Hollywood Reporter, Vaughn stated this third film will put an end to Eggsy’s coming-of-age storyline. Vaughn also said the character Harry Hart will re-appear in the third film, but he didn’t confirm actor Colin Firth would reprise this role.

The first Kingsman film, subtitled “The Secret Service,” was a commercial and critical success when it was released in 2015. Vaughn followed up the success of his first film with a sequel, subtitled “The Golden Circle,” in 2017. Both of these films brought in over $400 million a piece in the international box office.

After news of Kingsman III broke, some fans wondered if a Kingsman prequel was also in the works. As of today, however, there’s no confirmation Vaughn is writing a Kingsman prequel.

All of the Kingsman films are based on a comic book series called The Secret Service that was first released in 2012. Both the comics and films depict the exploits of a secret organization of spies (loosely modeled on the mythic Knights of the Round Table) operating underneath a men’s fashion store in London.

In the first film, Harry Hart initiated a young street thug (“Eggsy”) into the secret organization. The Golden Circle followed “Eggsy,” Hart, and a group of spies from America as they combatted a powerful drug lord, who was played by Julianne Moore.

Kingsman films are best-known for their intense action scenes, James Bond-esque weapons, and witty dialogue.
