“Aquaman” Direct Says Trailer Coming Soon

According to James Wan, director of the upcoming DC Extended Universe movie Aquaman, fans can expect its first trailer sometime in the near future.

This comes after a fan on Twitter asked “Is there a date when we will see the first #Aquaman trailer? I cannot wait for this!”

James Wan, always the playful sort, responded “Soooooon….”

The film finished principle photography last year, but needs a lot of CGI work before its December 21, 2018 release date―this film perhaps even more than most, as large sections of it are going to be set underwater. It has also reportedly had some additional shooting and possible reshoots, though thankfully not to the degree of Suicide Squad or Justice League.

Previously there had been a rumor that the trailer would be revealed at WonderCon in March; in that case, Wan shot down the rumor and explained that the the studio needed more time to get the footage done. As such, his current teasing is a good sign that things are moving along.

Many believe that the first trailer will be revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, scheduled for July 19 through July 22. Warner Bros. already shared some Aquaman footage at last year’s SDCC, as well as some more at this year’s CinemaCon, though those lacked the full special effects that we will see in the final film.

It is believed that SDCC will have a big DCEU exhibit this year, taking advantage of the fact that their rival franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will not be having a panel. Aside from Aquaman, there are rumors of a teaser for Shazam (scheduled for release in April 2019) and even concept art for Wonder Woman 2 and an appearances by The Batman‘s Ben Affleck and Matt Reeves; none of this has been confirmed, however.

Aquaman will be the sixth entry into the DCEU, which so far only has one unqualified success with Wonder Woman. People are hoping that the franchise has turned a corner after the underwhelming Justice League, and so far buzz about the film has been positive. Starring Jason Momoa, it will feature the titular hero fighting his half-brother for the throne of Atlantis.

For now, fans will just have to wait and see when the trailer comes.
