Warner Bros. recently announced that they are developing a movie based on the relationship between The Joker and Harley Quinn. Jared Leto and Margo Robbie will reprise the roles they played in 2016’s “Suicide Squad. This announcement comes shortly after Warner Bros. announced a stand-alone Joker film which will be directed by Todd Philips and will not star Leto.

The Joker-Harley Quinn movie, which has yet to be given a release date, will be directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who directed the 2015 film “Focus” which also starred Margo Robbie along with Will Smith. Warner Bros. is likely trying to take advantage of the popularity of Leto and Robbie to make up for the underwhelming reviews that “Suicide Squad” received.

The increase in DC Comic book character based movies in recent years is a response to the huge success of Marvel Super Hero Movies. The most recent, and most successful of the Warner Bros. DC Extended Universe films was “Wonder Woman,” which was released earlier this summer. “Wonder Woman” is the fourth installment in their DC series of movies and follows “Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and “Suicide Squad.”

The fifth film in the series, “Justice League,” will be released in theatres on Nov. 17, and is directed by Zach Snyder. “Justice League” will feature Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Gal Gadot reprising their roles as Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. The film will also introduce Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Ezra Miller as The Flash.

The next two films in the DC Universe, “Aquaman” and “Wonder Woman 2” have also been given release dates. “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa, will be in theatres on Dec. 21, 2018. “Wonder Woman 2,” starring Gal Gadot, is expected to be released Dec. 13, 2019.
