Yankees Eliminate Twins From Playoffs

The Major League Baseball playoffs are in full swing. The New York Yankees were the first team to advance past the divisional round of the playoffs. They were able to do this by vanquishing a familiar foe. They swept the Minnesota Twins by winning the third game of the series by a score of 5-1. The Yankees have a long history of dominating the Twins in the playoffs. This year was no different. The Twins were able to win 101 games during the regular season. They did this largely on the strength of their powerful lineup that would bludgeon opposing pitching staffs. However, the big bats of the Twins were no match for the pitching of the Yankees.

The Yankees will play the winner of the series that is going on between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Houston Astros. They will play in the American League Championship Series for the right to advance to the World Series. The Yankees have been playing their best baseball of the year when it matters the most. They have been getting very timely hitting and stellar pitching. This combination was on full display during their three games against the Twins.

The Twins need to find a way to beat the Yankees in the postseason. Their playoff failures against the Bronx Bombers have now become a bit of a running joke in the sports world. The Twins have now lost 13 consecutive games to the Yankees dating all the way back to 2004. No team has ever had a longer losing streak against another team in the history of the playoffs. If you look at the last seven playoff appearance for the Twins, six of them have ended at the hands of the Yankees. This is something that will need to change if this young Twins team is ever going to take a step forward and go to the next level.

The Twins also made some dubious history. A team that won 100 games during the regular season has not been swept out of the first round of the playoffs since George Brett and the Kansas City Royals disposed of the Yankees way back in 1980. The 2019 season should be considered a success for the Twins. Nobody expected them to win their division after being so awful last year. However, losing to the Yankees yet again has left a bitter taste in the mouths of the Twins and their fans.
