While some fighters might brush of the challenge of a new opponent, Canelo says he’s not taking any chances with Gennady. The middleweight champ says Golovkin is undoubtedly the “most dangerous” fighter he has ever faced, particularly because he always goes for a quick knockout. While Alvarez wouldn’t go into details about how he’ll approach a fighter like that, he did hint that he planned to use Gennady’s own strategy against him.
“I prefer to wait and show it during the fight,” Canelo said of his fighting strategy. “I expect there will be a lot of punches thrown, but I will say I am preparing for a knockout.”
Saul Alvarez is only focused on his fight with Gennady Golovkin, so he’s not thinking about much else these days. With a 41-1-1 record, fans might expect the 27-year-old boxer to start planning a retirement, but Alvarez is quick to dismiss that idea.
“No, it’s way too early to talk about retiring. I’d like to fight seven or eight more years.”
