It was a very good Thanksgiving for the New Orleans Saints. They were able to beat their division rival Atlanta Falcons by a score of 26-18. However, it was not just a regular win. The victory locked up the NFC South for the Saints. This means that they will be in the playoffs once again. It has been a miserable year for the Falcons. They are now 3-9 and have officially been eliminated from playoff contention. The Saints have put together a very good season. However, they have had to deal with some adversity along the way. Legendary QB Drew Brees suffered a broken thumb early in the season. He missed a few weeks. Teddy Bridgewater did a great job filling in. Brees is healthy again and has played the past few weeks.
The Saints are now 10-2. They still have a chance of getting the number one seed in the NFC playoffs. The San Francisco 49ers are the only team that has a better record than the Saints in the NFC. Some people are already thinking that the Saints could be headed for the Super Bowl. The Saints and their fans have endured two heartbreaking playoff losses over the past two seasons. Last season, the refs messed up a call that would have sent them to the Super Bowl. The year before that, they lost to the Vikings on a miracle play. Therefore, the Saints have a lot to prove this season. Drew Brees can’t play forever. This means that this might be the last chance for the Saints to get to the promised land.
The Falcons have been a huge disappointment. They actually have a lot of talent. However, they have not performed up to their expectations. Their head coach is on the hot seat. He might be fired after the very poor season they have had. Falcons owner Arthur Blank wants to win very badly. His team was beaten by the Patriots a few years ago and he wants to get another chance to win the title.
The NFL playoffs should be very exciting this year. The Saints might face the 49ers or the Packers on their journey to the Super Bowl. Getting the home field advantage will be very important. This will allow them to skip the first round of the playoffs and get an extra week of rest before playing their first playoff game.
