Red Sox Salvage Game against Yankees

The first two games against the New York Yankees did not go very well for the Boston Red Sox. In fact, the same can be said for the entire 2019 season for the Red Sox up to this point. However, they were able to wrap up their weekend series at Yankee Stadium by getting an 8-5 win behind the starting performance of David Price. This put the Red Sox at only a single game over the .500 mark. Needless to say, this is not where anyone in the Boston organization imagined they would be at this point in the season.

The Yankees have played very well despite many of their biggest players being on the injured list for a long time. Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorious and Giancarlo Stanton have all been unable to play because of an assortment of injuries. This has not slowed the Yankees down one bit. They have been able to reel off wins on a regular basis. They have been able to put some distance between themselves and the Red Sox. This has surprised many of the most respected experts in the sports media. People have been surprised how well New York has played despite having many secondary and unknown players being thrust into starting roles.

The win for the Red Sox on Sunday night was a very important one. It would have been a complete disaster if the Red Sox had been swept. The Yankees would have been able to gain three games. The Yankees will only be able to gain one game as it stands now. The series was originally intended to be four games. However, the game on Thursday was postponed because of rain. It will be played in August. Boston knows that they will need to play very well if they are going to be able to catch the Yankees. They also cannot afford to have any more injuries.

CC Sabathia pitched very well in a losing cause for the Yankees. He pitched six innings and only allowed three earned runs. However, David Price allowed two earned runs while also pitching the same number of innings. Sabathia has already announced that this will be his last season. He will most likely be going to the Hall of Fame when all is said and done. He has more wins than any other active pitcher. The Yankees are in a very good position right now.
