Red Sox Keep Indians Scoreless

They have run away with the American League East and built a very big lead on their arch rivals, the New York Yankees. The dominance of the Red Sox continued on Thursday night at Fenway Park against the Cleveland Indians. David Price pitched a great game and held the Tribe scoreless over eight innings. He only allowed three hits during that time. Price now has a record of 14-6 so far this season. This season has been a big redemption for Price. There were many people who thought he did not have the mental makeup to pitch in Boston. He has proven all of the doubters wrong. The Red Sox coasted to a very easy 7-0 win.

This series between the Red Sox and Indians was very interesting because these teams could be meeting each other in the playoffs. Therefore, many people were looking much more closely at this series than they otherwise would. Both teams are a lock to make the playoffs. The Indians also have a huge lead in the American League Central. They are the only team in their division with a winning record.

The Red Sox have been able to have this great season because of big contributions from several key players. Mookie Betts might be the best player in the game today. Free agent signing J.D. Martinez has put up the huge numbers that the Red Sox hoped he would. These guys will probably finish in the first two positions in the most valuable player voting. Chris Sale has been one of the best pitchers in the league. However, he is on the disabled list right now. It is anyone’s guess how he will perform when he returns.

The Indians have been very steady all year. However, both teams might have a very serious problem once the playoffs get started. They both have no competition in their division. Therefore, they will be on cruise control for the last five weeks of the season. Will they be able to flip the switch and start playing hard again once the games mean something again in the playoffs. Some players might have a hard time doing that after more than a month of games that are irrelevant. The good thing about both teams having a big lead is that they can set their playoff rotations.
