As a celebrity, it can be very difficult to sign every autograph for every fan. Golfers like Arnold Palmer believed that it was essential to sign as many autographs as possible. However, we have other celebrities in Hollywood and in sports that just couldn’t be bothered. Phil Mickelson has been known to not really like giving out autographs to his fans. Jordan Spieth recently shared a story about his encounter with Phil Mickelson when Spieth was just a kid. He went with his dad to the Byron Nelson tournament and was spending a lot of time at the practice green watching his idols.
As a little kid, he was doing what little kids do and started pestering the pros for their autographs while they were trying to get ready for a tournament. While the other pros eventually came over and gave this persistent young fan some autographs, Mickelson turned and walked away. Once Speith had joined the tour and asked Mickelson about the incident, there were some answers. Mickelson said that he knew who Speith was from junior golf and didn’t want to feed into his ego.
It will be interesting to see how things unfold when Spieth and Mickelson are battling against each other at The Masters in just a few short weeks. While many eyes are on Tiger, there are a good amount of fans that are still looking toward Mickelson and Speith. It will be very interesting to see who can take the title at Agusta. With Mickelson recently beating out Justin Thomas for the win in the playoffs at the World Golf Championship, it seems like he is back on top. At third place in the Fed Ex Cup rankings, he may even be in contention for the win of the entire season. The following weeks will be very interesting for golf fans.
