The Ultimate Fighting Championship organization sent shock waves through the world when they suspended Connor McGregor. The Irish superstar will be sidelined for one month due to medical reasons, reports mirror.co.uk. In the meantime, his nemesis Khabib Nurmagomedov has been medically cleared to fight.
It’s no surprise that McGregor is anxious about stepping back into the octagon with Nurmagomedov after his disappointing loss to the Sambo expert. He stated that he is looking forward to getting a rematch in the near future. It appears that McGregor is setting the stage for a possible trilogy.
The fight was competitive until Nurmagomedov began to wear McGregor down with his impressive Sambo skills. Nurmagomedov knew that intense grappling would be his best shot at getting the victory Saturday night. McGregor is well-known for his impressive hand speed, fast reflexes, and dynamic power punches. This is why Nurmagomedov kept his distance and focused on the take downs.
Nurmagomedov’s strategy paid big dividends when the McGregor was too tired to get back on his feet. At this point, it was easy to see that it would be a matter of time before Nurmagomedov would go for the submission. McGregor succumbed to a rear-naked choke in the fourth round.
The fight was exciting, and it will go down as a classic. However, it is surrounded by controversy. After the fight, Nurmagomedov went after one of McGregor’s teammates. It’s also important to mention that several men from Nurmagomedov’s camp physically assaulted McGregor. They were arrested, but they were later released after McGregor refused to press charges against them.
Dana White has publicly expressed his anger about the unfortunate incidents. White has yet to give Nurmagomedov his purse. White also stated that the men in Nurmagomedov’s camp will never fight for the organization again.
Both camps exchanged heated words before the fight. It’s fair to say that both sides pushed each other to their limit.
Will McGregor be able to bounce back after this huge disappointing loss? We must keep in mind that this is not the Irishman’s first lost. However, he may have met his match in Nurmagomedov. The Sambo practitioner has a solid chin, a big heart, and impeccable wrestling ability. Only time will tell if McGregor will be able to regain his lofty status in the UFC.
